Hello, I'm Vishal

AI Software EngineerCollege Park, MD

  1. 1

    Introduction

I am an AI Software Engineer with about 2.5 years of experience building backend systems, web apps, and lately, AI agents that people actually use. Most days that means programming inPython, TypeScript, FastAPI, Next.js, and a lot of thinking about retrieval.

I live in College Park, Maryland, where I am finishing my Masters in Software Engineering and AI, at the University of Maryland. Before that I studied Electrical Engineering at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Mumbai. I speak English, Hindi and Marathi fluently.

    Backend Engineering

I did not start in AI. My first real engineering job was a Technology Consultant internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where I built data lineage models over 1.9 million records with Neo4j and Angular. It ended with a fulltime job offer and a letter of recommendation.

After graduating my Bachelors degree, I joined Bank of New York (BNY) as a Software Engineer in fund accounting technology. I built internal tools with backend APIs and microservices, replaced a seven hour manual password rotation with a PowerShell and Ansible pipeline that runs in ten minutes, and fixed more than sixty critical vulnerabilities to reach an A+ Veracode grade. That is where I learned the hard part, making software reliable enough for a bank to trust it.

    AI Engineering

At the University of Maryland's Division of IT, I work with the AI Solutions team on chatbots and internal faculty tools used across campus. I built the inference service behind them, which pulls from GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL with pgvector, and Neo4j knowledge graphs. I also built a RAGAS evaluation workflow that scores a chatbot configuration on five quality metrics in about two minutes.

Outside work I keep building. vmarker which is a RAG engine for video that fuses captions, transcripts, and on screen text at retrieval time. It turned into a research paper on a method I call CTHR. ProBot is an open source chatbot platform with bring your own key security, and it powers VAi, the bot that answers recruiter questions in my voice. CNBC featured VAi in April 2026.

    Today

I graduate in December 2026. I am looking for a full time AI engineering role where the retrieval and evaluation problems are real, because that is the part of the stack I enjoy most and where I have the most to show.

I am fully US work authorized, OPT/STEM-OPT eligible. I am happy to relocate anywhere in the US or Europe.

When I am away from the keyboard, I am usually reading, playing chess, or planning the next trip. You can see what I have read on the bookshelf below.
